Game of Thrones season 7: Show officially renewed for 2017
HBO has renewed Game of Thrones for a seventh season, with the announcement appearing on the TV show's official Twitter page.
It's official: Game of Thrones season 7 is a go!
Fans were delighted with the news that the series will definitely be back next year.
A simple statement posted on the show’s Twitter account read: "Game of Thrones renewed for 2017."
Followers were quick to react to the news, tweeting various excited comments in reply.
One fan tweeted: "…and 2018, and 2019, and 2020, and 2021…"
Another wrote: "YES YES YES YES YES YES THAT'S THE BEST NEWS OF THE YEAR”.

Fans were thrilled with the news that the show will return in 2017
A third user didn't seem too shocked: "As if it ever wouldn't be”.
The current sixth season is barely off the ground, with the premiere episode airing on Sunday night. Entertainment Weekly reported that the explosive opening set new viewership records with streaming services, breaking HBO's overall ratings record with 10.7 million streamers.
Meanwhile, the episode aired via simulcast at 2am on Sky Atlantic in the UK, drawing in a massive 1.38 million viewers, despite being on in the early hours of the morning. It repeated at 9pm the following night to an additional 816,000 viewers for a total audience of 2.19 million.

In light of these figures, the announcement that the show has already been renewed for a season seven does indeed seem unsurprising.
Especially with cast members promising that the best is yet to come. Actor Daniel Portman, who plays Podrick Payne, tweeted on Monday: "Seems like everyone LOVED it. Trust me, it gets better and better! Brace yourselves”.
Game of Thrones continues on Sky Atlantic on Mondays at 9pm.
