Lewis Hamilton only F1 driver to leave famous YouTuber 'hanging' at Australian GP
Lewis Hamilton left one high-profile supporter disappointed at the Australian Grand Prix on Sunday.
Cody Jones - a member of the famous trickshot group Dude Perfect - was left hanging by seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton at the Australian Grand Prix. The YouTuber was attempting to accumulate high-fives from the entire grid but fell one driver short.
The iconic YouTube group came across Sky Sports F1 pundit Martin Brundle’s radar during his pre-race grid walk segment in Melbourne. The co-commentator usually interviews athletes, artists and movie stars, so Jones and co-host Tyler Toney were a change in clientele for the former Williams and McLaren driver.
While not a traditional media group, Dude Perfect and its members are big names. Since starting their YouTube channel back in 2009, they have amassed over 60 million subscribers and their most popular trickshot video has over 450 million views to date.
Speaking to Brundle about his experience ahead of the Australian Grand Prix, Jones said: “Man we’ve been up to a lot. I tried to high-five every driver. I got 19… I’m missing Lewis Hamilton. I’m zero for three, the guy keeps leaving me hanging. I’m going to have to come back next year.”

At the end of their conversation, Brundle asked whether or not Dude Perfect would be attempting any trick shots on the grid. Jones shut down the idea, stating: “You know, there’s a lot of rules out here I’ve learned, so we’re trying to be very respectful, very calm and collected, so no trick shots today.”
While Hamilton may not have been in the mood for high-fives in Melbourne, it is easy to understand the legendary Brit’s frustration. He was eliminated in Q2 during qualifying on Saturday, leaving him with plenty of work to do when the lights went out at the Albert Park circuit.

Hamilton’s mood got even worse just 17 laps into the race. After losing out to Red Bull’s Sergio Perez on fresh tyres, his Mercedes suffered a power unit failure, bringing his W15 to a grinding halt by the side of the track and spelling the end of a dismal weekend down under.
There was nothing to celebrate on the other side of the Mercedes garage either with George Russell crashing out at turn six on the final lap of the race while attempting to hunt down Fernando Alonso for P6. The 26-year-old’s DNF capped off a pointless visit to Melbourne for the Silver Arrows, who now sit just one point clear of fifth in the Constructors’ Championship.
