Adrian Newey has explained that he is still deciding where his F1 future lies, but that he would ‘love’ to work with Lewis Hamilton before the end of his career.
The 65-year-old has been heavily linked with Ferrari this season, although Aston Martin are the current favourites to land his signature.
Since Newey’s departure was confirmed there have been strong rumours linking him first with Fred Vasseur’s outfit at Ferrari, and then with the ambitious Aston Martin project that is being bankrolled by Lawrence Stroll. However, no decision has been made by the legendary aerodynamicist.

“It wasn’t a big surprise when other teams showed an interest after I announced I was leaving, but I won’t make a quick decision about my future,” Newey wrote for The Times. “I need a break to work out if I want to have another go in F1. I also didn’t want to risk going stale.”
He later added: “I don’t know what my future holds, but instead of dashing around the world to Grand Prix races this summer, I’ll be able to see my family. In June Mandy and I took our two Bernard doodles, Yogi and Benji, on a drive along the south coast for a week, which was great fun.”

What’s for sure is that Newey would not be opposed to working with Hamilton at Ferrari. “There are some drivers, like Lewis Hamilton and Fernando Alonso, who I would have loved to work with, but so far it has not been the right place or time in terms of us coming together,” he explained.
However, according to a BBC Sport report, it is unlikely that Maranello will be Newey’s next and potentially final home in F1. Ferrari CEO Benedetto Vigna is less than enthused by the bumper salary that the Essex-born engineer commands, and there are some concerns about the influence that he may pull should he join the project.

Instead, Aston Martin looks to be the most likely destination for the 65-year-old. Newey was given a private tour of the team’s brand-new facilities at Silverstone, and the fact that the squad are UK-based will no doubt be alluring to the Red Bull chief.
