A concerned George Russell was heard urging Logan Sargeant to jump straight out of his car after it caught fire at Saturday's FP3 event in Zandvoort. Sargeant lost control at the fourth turn ahead of the Dutch Grand Prix tomorrow, spiralling him into a barrier due to the weather-affected session.

He quickly jumped out before engaging fire mashalls, who worked to limit the damage to Sargeant's already totalled Williams FW46. And Mercedes driver Russell was quick to show concern for his fellow racer as the incident unfolded, signalling for Sargeant to get clear of the fire.

Over his internal communications device, Russell said: "He's on fire, he needs to jump out," receiving a response: "Driver is okay." Russell then replied: "He's okay, but the car's on fire." Russell was also spotted waving at his fellow driver, alerting him to the situation before it had become clear how serious it was.

Sargeant's collision with the barriers had a considerable impact on other racers, with a lenghty red flag running down the clock on the weekend's final practice session before the Dutch Grand Prix. Team principal James Vowles also explained that Williams have a tough task at hand to repair their vehicle ahead of Sunday's GP.

He told Sky Sports F1: "There's a limited amount [of parts], so if something happens to the other car, you need to make sure in parc ferme that you have spares. That's what I want to understand now. Can you service both cars?

"The first step of it is we will go through in detail what's been damaged. It looks pretty serious and that could result in a chassis change." Sargeant and Russell will look to go head to head when Sunday's Grand Prix in Zandvoort takes place.

Russell hopes to bridge the gap for Mercedes, currently sitting on 116 points from his sole win at the Austrian Grand Prix in June and his two podium places thus far in the 2024 campaign.

Meanwhile, Sargeant sits all the way down at 20th with no points to his name with Williams Mercedes thus far. Thai-British team-mate Alex Albon is not faring much better with his four points and 18th place standing.
