Carabao Cup: Newcastle seem unbothered says pundit
Newcastle travelled to the City Ground to take on Nottingham Forest on Wednesday night looking to book their place in the draw for the third round of the Carabao Cup.
But they fell behind early on thanks to former Magpies striker Daryl Murphy and despite Salomon Rondon bagging in stoppage time they failed to hold as Matty Cash and Gil Dias secured a 3-1 win.
Elsewhere, Everton breezed past Rotherham, while Watford secured safe passage at Reading’s expense and Millwall knocked out Plymouth.
Newcastle’s exit comes as Manchester United, Liverpool, Arsenal, Chelsea, Manchester City, Tottenham and Burnley wait to find out their third round opponents.
The seven Premier League clubs competing in European competition traditionally enter the Carabao Cup at the third round stage.
