MANCHESTER UNITED legend Paul Scholes has been criticised by former England team-mate David Seaman over his recent comments about Jose Mourinho.

Scholes has never shied away from sharing his opinion on Manchester United since he retired from playing in 2013.

The ex-midfielder works as a TV pundit, predominantly for BT Sport, and has been vocal in his criticism of his former club and manager Mourinho this season.

And in an interview with ESPN released earlier this week, Scholes says he is fed up with Mourinho’s moaning.

Asked if he knows Mourinho personally, Scholes said: “Not really, only from when I've played against him.

Paul Scholes telling Jose Mourinho that he’s a moaner? Paul Scholes. Hello!

“I loved watching his interviews, his cockiness. I thought he was brilliant, but that Jose has gone.

“Now it's just a moaning Jose, which frustrates you. He's moaning at his players and what he hasn't got.”

But Seaman, appearing on talkSPORT on Wednesday morning, says that was rich coming from Scholes.

“Paul Scholes telling Jose Mourinho that he’s a moaner? Paul Scholes. Hello!” Arsenal legend Seaman said.

“You don’t mind if it’s constructive but it seems to be wherever Paul goes at the moment that he’s just having a right go. It’s a little bit unjust.

“Scholesy was so quiet as a player, he hardly did any press or anything.”

Mourinho failed to bring in the centre-back he craved in the summer transfer window and has made it clear he is not happy with the defenders he has at his disposal.

But Scholes claimed the Portuguese should be coaching what he does have, adding: “He tells people he's the best coach, so he should now prove that.

“It's not like he's been given nothing [at Man United]. He's been given fortunes to spend and he's bought a lot of these players.

“He's bought the two centre-halves who don't look good enough. If he doesn't think they're good enough, then coach them and make them better.”

But Seaman disagrees with Scholes and says coaching players is made harder when you do not have the personnel you really want.

“I don’t think Jose’s got the players he wanted,” Seaman continued.

“He can try and make them better but there’s only so much a manager can do, a lot of it is down to the players.

“If you look at it, the players aren’t playing to their capacity.”

On the pitch United have lost three of their first eight Premier League games of the season.

Their next test is a trip to Stamford Bridge to face Chelsea on Saturday (12.30pm).
