Arsenal news: Seaman reveals when Petr Cech will replace Bernd Leno in Premier League
ARSENAL goalkeeper Petr Cech will have to wait until Bernd Leno goes through a bad patch before he returns to the Gunners side in the Premier League.
That is the opinion of legendary Arsenal and England goalkeeper David Seaman.
Cech started the season as Unai Emery’s No 1 despite the £19.2million arrival of Leno in the summer.
However, the former Chelsea man suffered a hamstring injury in the 2-0 win over Watford in September.
He has not featured since, with Leno deputising in the Premier League and Europa League.
I think at the moment Cech will only get back in if Leno has a bad spell
Cech has returned to full fitness and was in the squad for Arsenal's 2-2 draw with Crystal Palace on Sunday.
Emery has confirmed the 36-year-old will start the Carabao Cup clash against Blackpool tonight (7.45pm).
But Seaman says Cech will now struggle to displace Leno as No 1 unless the German has a poor run of games.
“He’s developing well,” Seaman said of Leno on talkSPORT.
“I think he’s more suited to play from the back than what Cech is.
“But don’t discard Cech because his goalkeeping is still quality.
“But I think at the moment Cech will only get back in if Leno has a bad spell.
“That’s right (Arsenal are on a great run).
“Obviously I think Cech will play tonight against Blackpool.
“That will be good for him to actually get some match minutes behind him.
“But I think it’s going to be quite a struggle for him now unless Leno has a bad spell.”
Arsenal are looking for their seventh straight win in all competitions at home this evening.
Blackpool have not won an away game at Arsenal since 1958.
