Arsenal news: Rio Ferdinand makes bold Man Utd prediction… Martin Keown disagrees
MANCHESTER UNITED legend Rio Ferdinand is convinced his former side will be above Arsenal following next weekend’s clash at the Emirates.
Arsenal were held to a 1-1 draw by north London rivals Tottenham on Saturday.
The Gunners missed the chance to close the gap on Spurs to one point and extend their lead over fifth-placed Manchester United.
United then had the opportunity of leapfrogging Arsenal when they hosted struggling Southampton at Old Trafford straight after.
And Ferdinand was sure Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side would continue the fine form they have been in since the turn of the year.
Did you see United at the Emirates the other day? They destroyed Arsenal. Ole’s at the wheel
He said on BT Sport: “United will go fourth today. Trust me.”
Former Arsenal defender Martin Keown pointed out United and the Gunners go head to head next Sunday.
“But then Arsenal play them next week and that will all change,” Keown responded.
But Ferdinand can only see one winner in that match, with United beating Arsenal in the FA Cup in January.
“And then we’ll go [further] above them again,” Ferdinand replied.
“Did you see United at the Emirates the other day? They destroyed Arsenal.
“Ole’s at the wheel.”
Arsenal missed a penalty late on at Wembley, with Pierre-Emerick Aubemayang seeing his spot-kick saved by Tottenham goalkeeper Hugo Lloris.
And Jermaine Jenas reckons Spurs will be the happier of the two sides following the match.
“Spurs in my opinion,” Jenas said.
“I actually feel in that Arsenal dressing room it will feel like a loss.
“When you get a penalty in the last seconds of the game to win it and you’ve actually performed so well defensively and that doesn’t go in.
“I think Spurs will come off this pitch knowing they’ve got away with one really.
“Not played well and they’ll feel like they’ve got a good result.”
