Harry Redknapp reveals ‘luck’ Tottenham had against Borussia Dortmund
TOTTENHAM rode their luck against Borussia Dortmund but thoroughly deserved to qualify for the quarter-final of the Champions League.
That is according to former Tottenham manager and BT Sport pundit Harry Redknapp.
Spurs beat Borussia Dortmund 1-0 on Tuesday in the second leg of their last-16 tie.
The Premier League side led 3-0 from the first leg at Wembley last month so were overwhelming favourites to go through.
Dortmund piled the pressure in the first half and Redknapp says Tottenham were fortunate not to concede.
First half they rode their luck and Lloris was in fantastic form, made some great saves
But ultimately he says the emphatic aggregate scoreline was deserved.
“Over the two legs obviously a great scoreline for them,” Redknapp said.
“First half they rode their luck and Lloris was in fantastic form, made some great saves.
“Once Harry Kane the fight went out of Dortmund.
“Tottenham looked in control, they never looked in any danger.
“They defended really well, they looked very solid second half.
“They thoroughly deserved to go through for sure.”
Former Tottenham midfielder Jermaine Jenas pointed out the importance of keeping clean sheets in the knockout stages of the Champions League.
“People forget coming into this tie, I’m not sure Spurs were favourites, Dortmund were top of the league, scoring goals, looking very dangerous,” Jenas said.
“Two clean sheets, some massive performances as well tonight.
“Harry Kane, Vertonghen, Lloris, big night for Spurs.”
