Man Utd boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer held long talks with one player after Wolves defeat
MANCHESTER UNITED boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer held long talks with Luke Shaw after the club’s defeat to Wolves in the FA Cup.
Man United: Solskjaer brands Wolves match as 'poor'
Manchester United boss Solskjaer saw his side’s hopes of FA Cup glory ended by a superb Wolves side before the international break.
The Red Devils went into the match as favourites but were subjected to a difficult night up in the Midlands.
Wolves put Manchester United to the sword with Raul Jimenez and Diego Jota on target, while Marcus Rashford could only manage a consolation for the visitors.
Many Red Devils supporters were left devastated by the defeat, particularly given how it sparked an end to their best chances of winning a trophy.
But The Sun say defender Shaw also had trouble digesting it - forcing Solskjaer to step in.
The Norwegian is a popular figure at United having restored parity, cohesion and attacking football since replacing Jose Mourinho back in December.
And The Sun say that, with Shaw down in the dumps over the Wolves mauling, Solskjaer held ‘long’ talks to help pick him up.
A source is quoted as saying: “Luke took the Wolves defeat pretty bad. Ole had a chat with him to try and pick him up.
“It was long and frank and he was trying to keep him going.
“Luke felt he and the rest of the defenders allowed Wolves into the game.
“Ole and Luke spoke after he had dealt with the main squad. They have a good relationship and get on really well.
“It wasn't anything serious but it just shows how much all the squad care for Ole and what he has brought to the club.”
News of Solskjaer talking with his United defender comes at a time where:
- Barcelona make a Samuel Umtiti transfer decision amid United interest.
- Paul Pogba picks between Real Madrid and Barcelona transfers.
- United may stop Liverpool from losing Sadio Mane to Real Madrid this transfer window.
Shaw, meanwhile, tipped Solskjaer to land the United job on a permanent basis after the 3-1 Champions League victory over PSG earlier this month.
“I don’t think I need to say much after all these results, it looks certain,” he said.
“We all love Ole and we love the job he’s done so far.
“We’re enjoying everything that’s going on at the moment and the results have shown that. Long may that continue.”
United are next in action against Watford on Saturday (3pm).
