Man Utd naming Ole Gunnar Solskjaer as permanent manager is bad news for SIX people
MANCHESTER UNITED have named Ole Gunnar Solskjaer as the club’s permanent boss following a stunning interim period. Express Sport looks at the six people who, however, may be less enthused with the news.
Man United: Solskjaer as manager is ‘GREAT’ says pundit
Manchester United have named Solskjaer as their permanent replacement for Jose Mourinho, exactly 99 days since the 46-year-old succeeded Jose Mourinho on an interim basis.
It has been a fine start to life at Old Trafford for the Norwegian, who has steered them to 14 wins from his first 19 games in charge.
Many Manchester United players and personnel have thrived since Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s appointment - but a few have not.
Express Sport brings you SIX people the 46-year-old’s appointment is bad news for.
Antonio Valencia
Club captain though he may be, but Antonio Valencia has barely played during Solskjaer’s reign so far.
A summer exit now appears to be on the cards. And do not expect to see the Ecuador international featuring too much before the end of the season.
Alexis Sanchez
Alexis Sanchez remains stuck in a rut. United are supposedly hoping he will come good - but Solskjaer doesn’t think so.
The Norwegian has privately confessed he is not up to scratch - hence the club’s interest in Jadon Sancho and Callum Hudson-Odoi.
Fred
Fred is a £52million player. On paper at least.
He impressed as the club beat PSG but has barely had a look-in since arriving in the summer. A penalty given away against Arsenal has also done little to help his cause.
Marcos Rojo
United’s contract policy is… strange to say the least.
Marcos Rojo was given an extension last March but has made just four starts since. None under Solskjaer.
Matteo Damian
Like Rojo and Fred, Matteo Darmian is another United star who has barely featured under Solskjaer.
The Italian wants to return to his homeland and now, with Solskjaer staying permanently, that is likely to happen at the end of the campaign.
Jose Mourinho
Jose Mourinho thought this United squad was not good enough.
But Solskjaer has embarrassed him. There is talent there, and potential that can be moulded. In landing the job, the Norwegian has shown he has the nous to succeed where Mourinho does not, in another blow to the 56-year-old’s reputation.
