Ronaldo missed Fifa’s Best awards on Monday night, with Lionel Messi named Best Player of the Year for the sixth time.

Barcelona star Messi took the award ahead of Ronaldo and Liverpool ace Virgil van Dijk.

Ronaldo was not at the awards and will also miss the clash with Brescia due to an abductor injury.

Juventus boss Maurizio Sarri confirmed the former Manchester United star would be absent when he said: "Cristiano has a little fatigue to the abductors.

“I don't want to take any risk with injuries.”

Ronaldo hasn’t been overly quiet since missing the Fifa awards, posting on Instagram.

Alongside an image of himself reading a book, Ronaldo wrote: “Patience and persistence are two characteristics that differentiate the professional from the amateur.

"Everything that is big today has started small. You can't do everything, but do everything you can to make your dreams come true.

Juventus have won three of their opening four games and sit two points behind Serie A leaders Inter Milan.

Ronaldo had played in all four matches, finding the net twice.

That included a goal in the 2-1 win over Hellas Verona at the weekend with the Portuguese ace also grabbing an assist.
