Man Utd team news: Predicted 4-2-3-1 line up vs Arsenal – Pogba latest, Greenwood hint
Manchester United could be without Paul Pogba and several other first-team players when they face Arsenal at Old Trafford on Monday night (8pm).
Man Utd: Solskjaer hopes Pogba will play in Arsenal clash
Paul Pogba, Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford are all injury doubts when Manchester United return to Premier League action against Arsenal on Monday.
The Red Devils fielded a much-changed starting XI against Rochdale in the Carabao Cup on Wednesday and were held to a 1-1 draw by the League One outfit before winning on penalties.
Pogba made his return from an ankle injury against Dale and played the full 90 minutes but aggravated the problem and is now a doubt to face the Gunners.
Speaking in his pre-match press conference, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer said: ”Paul was really struggling with his ankle as it was really swollen, so let’s see how that repairs. He got 90 minutes but was sore towards the end again.
"Rashford and Martial? I wouldn't put my life on it but that's part of this game, you work with what you have and we're looking forward to this game."
Solskjaer went on to discuss his other absentees, revealing that Luke Shaw could return against Arsenal but faces a late fitness test.
"Phil [Jones] will be out until after the international break,” he said.
“I don’t think we’ll see Anthony [Martial] before the international break. Luke [Shaw] is improving so, hopefully, we’ll see him.”
Man United: Solskjaer says club is ‘better in penalty shootouts’
Diogo Dalot, Eric Bailly and Timothy Fosu-Mensah are also out while Angel Gomes is also on the treatment table.
Sergio Romero, Axel Tuanzebe, Marcos Rojo and Tahith Chong are all expected to drop out of the starting XI while Fred and Andreas Pereira are also set to be rotated.
However, Jesse Lingard should retain his spot while Daniel James and Juan Mata are likely to be recalled and Mason Greenwood could lead the line once more.
When asked if Greenwood is ready to start a Premier League match, Solskjaer said: “It might be, he’s proven when he’s been on the pitch, Astana and Rochdale, when you get him in the box he’s dangerous. So I’m not worried about him at all but we’ve managed him, can’t just throw him in the deep end all the time [but] he’s proved in those games he’s ready for [the] Premier League. I’ll have the weekend to think about it.”
