Anelka's singing in rain
NICOLAS Anelka proved Chelsea can still deliver without banned Didier Drogba as he sank Porto with a stunning finish to get the Blues off to a winning start in their Champions League group.
With Drogba suspended for three games, the pressure was on Anelka at rain-lashed Stamford Bridge and he delivered just after half-time, curling in the winner from an acute angle after his initial shot was saved by Helton.
Manchester United were also below their best but grabbed a 1-0 win away at Besiktas. Paul Scholes, sent off at Tottenham on Saturday, was back in the good books heading the winner in the 77th minute.
Cristiano Ronaldo showed United the firepower they will be missing this season as he scored twice in Real Madrid’s 5-2 win at FC Zurich.
