Man Utd winger transfer in doubt because Jose Mourinho could trigger 50% discount clause
Manchester United and Tottenham are vying for Marcus Edwards.
England's U20 Marcus Edwards scores brilliant free-kick goal
Manchester United are considering an approach for Vitoria Guimaraes star Marcus Edwards, reports claim. Tottenham have also shown interest in the 21-year-old they offloaded in September.
Edwards has enjoyed a terrific debut campaign for the Portuguese outfit since arriving in September on a free transfer from Tottenham.
He's scored seven goals and providing seven assists in 30 appearances - including one strike against Arsenal in the Europa League group stages.
And the versatile winger, who can operate on either flank, has attracted attention from the Premier League.
Portuguese publication Record claim both Manchester United and Spurs are monitoring Edwards' development and could make an approach in the upcoming transfer window.
Edwards signed a four-year deal with Vitoria that expires in June 2023 and the Primeira Liga side are demanding between £18m-£22.6million for his signature.

The Red Devils obviously have the financial muscle to complete their pursuit but Tottenham have a significant advantage.
And that, according to Record, is because Jose Mourinho's side are entitled to 50 per cent of any future sale.
That effectively represents a 50 per cent discount for the north London club.
Another advantage could be that Edwards is signed to the same agency who represent Spurs midfielder Dele Alli and defender Danny Rose.
In December, Edwards discussed the reason behind him leaving Tottenham.
“It is not easy to explain and it was never something that I had possibly imagined possible in the past," he told Record. "But the truth is that after the possibility came up it wasn’t necessary to think too much.

“I needed a project where I could develop my football, settle down and move forward in my career.
“Things were not always easy and I think I needed a challenge like that. It was also very important to feel that Vitoria really wanted me. I felt very desired, and after talking to my family, the decision was easy. And for now, I couldn’t be happier for the option I took.
“Portuguese football is not very well followed in England and the little I knew was due to my friend Willock, who was playing in Benfica.
“When the possibility of Vitoria came up, I also talked to him, who told me it was a big club here in Portugal. He knows me very well and he was not wrong.”
