Fergie's keen to solve his keeper crisis
GOALKEEPERS Igor Akinfeev and Manuel Neuer are on Sir Alex Ferguson’s radar, with the Manchester United manager plotting a winter move.
Ben Foster’s troubles in goal have led to Ferguson reconsidering his options when the January transfer window opens.
While Ferguson still has hope for England star Foster, the ability of Akinfeev and Neuer has not gone unnoticed.
Ferguson was keen on Schalke goalkeeper Neuer in the summer after he helped Germany to Under-21 glory in Euro 2009.
The 23-year-old looks likely to go to the World Cup this summer and Ferguson is considering a move for him now, fearing his price tag could rocket if he has a good tournament.
A spokesman for Neuer’s management company said: “There has been a lot of interest in Neuer.
“While Manchester United expressed a previous interest, it is likely Schalke’s valuation of him could increase if the player continues to improve.”
CSKA Moscow star Akinfeev will get a chance to impress Ferguson when United face the Russian club in the Champions League next month.
