Five free agents Arsenal can still sign including club icon, Man Utd and Tottenham rejects
Arsenal were the biggest spenders in the Premier League this summer but they are still able to add free agents to their squad, should they wish to do so...
Transfer deadline day: Premier League round-up
Arsenal spent just under £150million on signings in the summer transfer window - making them the biggest spenders in the Premier League. With splashing cash comes pressure and now there will be little margin for error for Mikel Arteta, who is already feeling the heat in the Arsenal hot-seat.
Nonetheless, it's clear the Gunners are going through a period of transition and this will not necessarily be a quick fix.
Furthermore, as many have pointed out, the club's signings appear to point towards a brighter future.
Nuno Tavares, Albert Sambi Lokonga, Ben White, Martin Odegaard, Aaron Ramsdale and Takehiro Tomiyasu are all under the age of 23 and there is clearly a precise transfer strategy being carried out by Edu.
Yet Arsenal are maybe guilty of lacking some experience in recent weeks and there are still some worthwhile solutions within the long list of free agents.
JUST IN: Arsenal's strongest XI after transfer window suggests Mikel Arteta deserves time from Edu
While it's clear the Gunners will not delve into the free-agent market, hypothetically, Express Sport looks at five players who may be of use...
One player currently without a club that could really lift the mood at the Emirates Stadium is Jack Wilshere, who finally left Arsenal for West Ham in the summer of 2018.
Things didn't work out for Wilshere in east London due to injuries but he has been fit since January 2020.
Arsenal fans would love to bring their hero, whose performance against Barcelona in 2011 is still talked about today, home, even if it was just to have him around the place but given the club are already under huge pressure, spending more cash on Wilshere, who is unlikely to kick a ball, would be very questionable.

One player who would generally improve Arsenal's options is Serge Aurier, who has now left Tottenham following the mutual termination of his contract.
The Gunners are lacking quality at right-back and Aurier, for all his faults can be an asset on his day with his athleticism and excellent crossing. This one also appears highly unlikely though.
Arsenal could also turn to former Manchester United goalkeeper Sergio Romero following the departure of Runar Alex Runarsson, who has joined OH Leuven in Belgium on loan.
The Argentine is looking for a club after leaving Old Trafford at the end of last season and he could help keep Bernd Leno and Aaron Ramsdale on their toes.
Javier Pastore has been linked with Arsenal many times over the years but the 32-year-old is now up for grabs on a free transfer following spells with PSG and more recently, Roma.
The experienced Argentine comes with a winning mentality and would help drive the standards in the dressing room and on the training pitch at London Colney.
Finally, another deal that seems incredibly unlikely but David Luiz is still yet to find a new club after leaving Arsenal earlier this summer.
With Pablo Mari, Rob Holding and Calum Chambers all struggling, Luiz's experience could help strengthen Arsenal's options in reserve at central defence.
He did have several altercations with Arteta, meaning the Spaniard is unlikely to hand him a second chance at the club but for all his faults, Luiz is a better organiser and defender than what is currently on offer...
