Liverpool fear 'serious' Diogo Jota injury as Portugal forward faces World Cup heartache
Liverpool reportedly fear Diogo Jota has suffered a serious injury.
Liverpool star Diogo Jota may have suffered a serious calf injury in Sunday's win over Manchester City, according to reports. The Reds fear the issue could keep the forward out long enough to rule him out of the World Cup in Qatar.
Jota has already missed a number of matches this season due to injury. He had a hamstring problem at the beginning of the campaign which kept him out until September.
He has not scored a club goal since the 2-2 draw at Manchester City in April. And he looks set to have to wait even longer before notching his first trike this term.
Jota was stretchered off late in the second half of the weekend's 1-0 win over City at Anfield with a calf issue and was replaced by Kostas Tsimikas. The Athletic claims he will undergo a scan today but the initial prognosis is not good.

He is a key part of the Portugal squad, who start their World Cup campaign against Ghana on November 24, having scored 10 goals in 29 caps for his country. But Fernando Santos may now have to do without Jota for the tournament.
Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp was concerned at the 25-year-old's situation when speaking to the media after the match. Klopp said: "We miss the next [game] with Diogo.
"He felt real pain in that moment but I have no idea how bad it is. If Diogo stays down it is not good. I saw it on the side on the screen, I am the first who saw it.

"When I saw he goes down and there was not a lot of contact, you can see a little bit that somebody kicks his foot and maybe the muscle got overstretched, 96 minutes, that’s not good for the muscle."
Mohamed Salah's goal led Liverpool to victory at Anfield and moved the Reds up to eighth in the table. But Klopp's attacking resources are now set to be stretched to the limit.
Luis Diaz will not play for the club again until at least December. The winger suffered a knee injury in the 3-2 loss at Arsenal earlier this month and is set to miss Colombia's participation at the World Cup.
