Lampard insists Chelsea 'will be back' after Champions League exit
Vincent Kompany has reportedly made Chelsea's four-man managerial shortlist, although the club's recent experience with Graham Potter may count against him getting the job. The Burnley boss has earned admirers at Stamford Bridge for his stellar work at Turf Moor this season, but others in west London harbour concerns.

Kompany's managerial career started at Anderlecht in 2019, and while things didn't always go his way in Belgium, the stars have aligned for a fruitful spell at Burnley. The Clarets have already earned promotion back to the Premier League and look set to do so as champions.
Even more impressive is the fact that Kompany has transformed them into an attractive, possession-based side that have lost only two of 42 matches in the second-tier so far this season. Chelsea are said to be 'hugely impressed' with the former Manchester City captain.
So much so, in fact, that The Times claim he has made their four-man shortlist. The exact make-up of the quartet is unknown, but Mauricio Pochettino, Luis Enrique and Julian Nagelsmann have all been heavily linked with the Blues in recent weeks.

That list may even have been whittled down further over the past few hours as reports indicate that Nagelsmann has decided to snub the opportunity, despite the belief that he was the club's preferred candidate.
Although Kompany is still in the running, he may not be for long as senior figures at Stamford Bridge are reportedly worried by his inexperience, particularly after Potter failed spectacularly to construct a winning side after making the massive step up from Brighton.

Like Potter, Kompany taking the reins at Chelsea would signify a massive jump in responsibility compared to what he currently oversees at Turf Moor. With other experienced candidates in the mix, it remains to be seen whether the Blues would be prepared to risk taking the leap of faith with the Belgian.
Co-sporting directors Paul Winstanley and Laurence Stewart are currently overseeing the recruitment process after Potter was sacked earlier this month. Frank Lampard has been placed in temporary charge in the meantime, which has failed to jolt Chelsea into life.
In fact, the Premier League giants have lost four games on the spin since Lampard's temporary appointment, with their expensively-assembled group of players hitting rock bottom at this late stage of the season.
Along with finding Potter's permanent successor, co-owner Todd Boehly is expected to oversee a major squad clear-out in the summer. Chelsea's lowly league standing means they are set to miss out on Champions League money, meaning their hefty wage bill will need to be slashed significantly.
