Killie ask Rovers for talks with Kean
KILMARNOCK last night asked Blackburn Rovers for official permission to open talks with Steve Kean over their vacant managerial position.
Express Sport revealed on Saturday that Killie were confident they would make the Rovers first-team coach their new boss.
Rugby Park chairman Michael Johnston made the call to Ewood Park chief executive John Williams, seeking permission to speak to 42-year-old Kean.
Killie are hopeful of being able to speak to their top target today. Kean, who was No 2 to Chris Coleman at Fulham, Real Sociedad and Coventry, has been identified as the man to replace Jimmy Calderwood.
The Scot, who kicked off his career as a youth at Celtic, is keen to step into management and has made the Ayrshire club aware of his interest in the position. Kean is also willing to take a significant wage cut to move into frontline management, as he is behind Sam Allardyce and Neil McDougall at Ewood Park.
If the move for Kean collapses Killie could turn to former payer Gus MacPherson, sacked by St Mirren last month.
