Football Digest: Reaction to David de Gea leaving Man Utd
Manchester United's squad for the 2023-24 season finally appears to be taking shape with Erik ten Hag landing signings in key positions. The Red Devils are reportedly set to sign Inter Milan goalkeeper Andre Onana, which will follow a £60million deal for playmaker Mason Mount.
A new striker could yet arrive at Old Trafford, although United may need to trim their squad before a proper pursuit can be made. Ten Hag will expect a rejuvenated squad to challenge for the Premier League title after slipping away midway through last season.
But United will have strong competition from a few new-look rivals hoping to finally topple Manchester City's dominance. Arsenal are completing a mini-overhaul of Mikel Arteta's squad, with Declan Rice and Jurrien Timber expected to join Kai Havertz in joining the Gunners this week.
Liverpool and Chelsea are also making vast improvements and are both expected to be back among the contenders for trophies next season. Tottenham, Newcastle and Aston Villa will hope to qualify for European competition again, and are making adjustments to the respective squads.

Kane tipped to commit future to Tottenham
Former Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp has tipped Harry Kane to commit his long-term future to Spurs.
“Harry wants to win trophies. If he stays in England, the only club really you could go to is Man City, if you’re going to be guaranteed to win a trophy. Everybody else is fighting at the moment still – I think Arsenal will be close next year, hopefully, Liverpool will push on. Unless you go to Man City, who don’t need him, winning a trophy there’s no guarantee," he told talkSPORT.
“Where are you going to win a trophy in England, guaranteed, unless you are at Manchester City? I mean, he’s not going to go to Arsenal, he is not going to go to Chelsea, they are not going to sell him there.
“At the end of next year, he is a free (agent). Would he go to Manchester United or somewhere on a free? Maybe or somewhere. I think he will end up committing his future to Tottenham and staying there.”
