Mason Greenwood makes big announcement as Man Utd man ends 18-month social media hiatus
Mason Greenwood shared an Instagram post on Friday for the first time since January last year.
Man Utd's recruitment issues
Manchester United forward Mason Greenwood has announced the birth of his first child on social media. The 21-year-old had taken a step back from Instagram and Twitter over the past 18 months, with his professional football career put on hold.
The youngster's last senior appearance for Man Utd came in January last year, although he was recently snapped keeping fit with fellow Red Devil Anthony Elanga.
United are yet to arrive at a final decision on Greenwood's future after launching an internal investigation back in February. The forward came through the academy system at Old Trafford, racking up 35 goals in 129 matches since breaking into the senior team.
And he made a significant announcement on Friday, posting a picture showing the hand of his newborn child on Instagram.
The post ended an 18-month break from social media as Greenwood has withdrawn from the public eye since United suspended him midway through the 2021/22 season. The Bradford-born player, who joined the youth system as a schoolboy, is under contract with the Red Devils for another two years.
However, discussions are reportedly ongoing behind the scenes regarding how best to proceed in terms of keeping the striker in Erik ten Hag's ranks or pursuing an exit solution instead.
Mason Greenwood ‘won’t play in Premier League again’ with Man Utd to want £80m
Manchester United striker Mason Greenwood won’t play in the Premier League again, according to Gabriel Agbonlahor. The England international had charges dropped against him back in February. He’s now free to resume his career, but the Red Devils are yet to decide whether to keep, loan or sell the youngster this summer.

Rumours have circulated around a possible loan move to Italian side Atalanta, who have held discussions with United over a deal for 20-year-old Rasmus Hojlund. It has been suggested that Greenwood could be used as a makeweight for the promising young striker, although it is unlikely to be more than speculation until the Red Devils' investigation concludes.
Former Aston Villa marksman Gabby Agbonlahor has cast doubt on whether Greenwood will ever pull on United's famous red shirt again. "I don’t think he will play in the Premier League," he told talkSPORT.
"I think his reputation is damaged at Manchester United and England, I do think he will play on again in a different country, a different league. And that’s down to those clubs, their managers and their owners if they decide to sign Mason Greenwood.
"But I do feel living in England, being at football games, seeing what fans are like at games, I can’t see him going out there and playing for Manchester United again."
