Erik ten Hag issues snappy response to Man Utd defensive midfield signing question
Manchester United have been linked with moves for Sofyan Amrabat and Ryan Gravenberch in recent weeks.
Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag has declared he is satisfied with his options in the middle of the park - suggesting the signing of another defensive midfielder is not necessarily essential. The Red Devils have had recent transfer plans disrupted after Harry Maguire decided to snub a move to West Ham.
United accepted a bid worth in the region of £30million for the England defender but he failed to agree personal terms with the Hammers.
That now looks likely to prohibit United from additional spending after splashing £179m on three new arrivals this summer.
But with Donny van de Beek set to follow Fred out of the door, there is a sense United may now require some depth in the middle of the park.
Sofyan Amrabat continues to be linked with United while Ryan Gravenberch is also said to be of interest.

However, Ten Hag has no interest in offering assurances that a midfield signing will arrive through the door.
He told Sky Sports when quizzed on that prospect: "We have options in our squad to cover that, of course with Casemiro.
"Alongside him we have Scott McTominay and we also have Kobbie Mainoo who can play in that position."
McTominay was also the subject of a bid from West Ham but United are now prepared to keep hold of the Scotland international.

Mainoo is also now nursing an injury which will only strengthen United's desire to strengthen their roster.
It's safe to say the crux of United's summer business is now complete but that won't stop them from exploring any opportunities that tickle their fancy.
Van de Beek has been told he can leave but so far, Real Sociedad have failed to get a deal over the line for the Dutchman.
Other departures could yet free up funds with Eric Bailly and Anthony Martial among those that can leave at the right price.
Ten Hag has also confirmed that United remain in talks with Jonny Evans over a short-term contract with the club.
The veteran has been training with United and featured in pre-season following his release from Leicester.
"In this moment, he is not [under contract] but we are talking," Ten Hag said of Evans.
"We will see. We are in talks and when we have news we will bring it."
