Fabio Capello must make his moves known
ENGLAND manager Fabio Capello today has to show he is worth his £6million salary by bringing some sanity to the Rustenberg madhouse.
His decision to tell his players whether or not they started against the USA only two hours before kick-off was quite properly his prerogative.
But now that Robert Green’s crass error has become such an issue, Capello must make his next move known – and quickly.
Whoever plays in goal on Friday against Algeria must know as soon as possible. For the chosen goalkeeper’s sake, for the team’s cohesion and understanding – and for Green’s sake too.
If David James or Joe Hart are to start instead, let the squad know. Now. And if Green – who may have to play later in the tournament – needs time to regroup, let him know. Now.
What is needed now, Fabio, are fewer expansive arm gestures and a show of utterly calm leadership.
