Fleck will be fighting mad for Rangers
JOHN FLECK has vowed to pack a punch next season – after a summer of BOXING training.
The 18-year-old Rangers starlet knows that the gloves will soon be off in the fight with Celtic to claim the SPL title.
But Fleck has worked out a pre-season regime that he hopes will allow Rangers to deliver a knockout blow by joining his boxing-mad cousin in the ring to sharpen up and make sure he’s in tip-top shape for the big kick off.
Fleck admitted: “I’ve had a few weeks off, but I was in doing training at Murray Park and I’ve also been doing some boxing training.
“I’ve been doing that with my cousin James – but there’s no chance of me beating him. He used to be a boxer. He’s a wee guy but he’s bulkier than me
“I’ve been working on the pads and hitting the punchbags.I did it off my own back – it’s just a different way of getting fitter and stronger.
“I put a wee bit of weight on after the season, but this is a great way to keep in shape and so far I’ve not got injured!”
After re-writing the record books when he played in a Scottish Cup Final aged 16, then won praise from David Beckham and was tipped for a Scotland cap by then boss George Burley, Fleck faded.
He added: ““I had to work a bit harder. That was a big part of my game that was missing. But now I have it ingrained in my head that I need to work hard in training. A lot harder than I was doing.
