Mason Greenwood to pocket £500k as Man Utd star's future still uncertain
Mason Greenwood is still set to bank more than half a million pounds in profit despite his image rights firm being voluntarily placed into liquidation.
Manchester United's Mason Greenwood, who is currently on loan at Spanish club Getafe, is set to pocket over half a million pounds despite his image rights company going into liquidation.
Documents from Companies House reveal that TSM Sports, the company directed by Greenwood, appointed a voluntary liquidator on March 1st. After paying off bills related to the liquidation, Greenwood is expected to make a profit of around £508,862.50.
Greenwood, aged 22, signed a declaration of solvency in early February, confirming these figures.
TSM was established by Greenwood in the summer of 2019. However, its closure suggests that the former England player believes his public image may not recover following his arrest in January 2022.
Nike was one of the sponsors to drop Greenwood after he was suspended by United during a police investigation. He faced several charges and was due to stand trial before the Crown Prosecution Service decided not to proceed with the case due to the withdrawal of key witnesses and new evidence coming to light.
Following this, United conducted an internal investigation that lasted several months. They eventually decided to loan Greenwood to La Liga team Getafe earlier this season.
Greenwood is performing well, scoring seven times and setting up five goals in 25 games. Getafe chiefs have made it clear they would like to keep the one-cap England international on a permanent basis at the end of the campaign.
But if he is to stay in Spain, he might have to earn less than his £75,000 a week which is what he's paid at United. His contract expires in the summer of 2025 but United have an option to extend his deal by 12 months.
Sir Jim Ratcliffe, who just bought 25 per cent of United, says the club will think about Greenwood's future after his loan ends at the end of this season.
He said: "Yes, absolutely. We will make a decision and we will justify it. He's a Manchester United footballer so we are in charge of football. So the answer is yes, we have to make decisions."
