Jadon Sancho 'deal-breaker' could cost Man Utd millions as Dortmund swap dismissed
Loaned-out Manchester United outcast Jadon Sancho faces an uncertain future.
Manchester United may be forced to fork out millions subsidising another loan move for Jadon Sancho next season, according to reports. A permanent transfer fee looks to be out of Borussia Dortmund's reach, and neither side appears to have an appetite for a swap deal involving Donyell Malen.
United spent £73million to lure Sancho away from Dortmund in 2021. His move to the Premier League turned out to be a disaster, however, and a falling out with Erik ten Hag saw him exiled from the first team between September and the January transfer window, whereupon he fled to Germany on loan.
Sancho scored the opener in the second leg of BVB's Champions League knockout win over PSV Eindhoven on Wednesday night. But even a run of top form between now and the end of the season may not be enough to cement a permanent move back to the German giants.
According to The Daily Mail, Dortmund mustering up the cash necessary for Sancho is almost out of the question. United 'heavily subsidising' another loan is therefore a deal-breaker if they are to ship him back out to Signal Iduna Park in 2024/25.
Given that Sancho reportedly pockets £250,000 a week, covering a proportion of those wages would easily run into the multiple millions over the course of a campaign. The 23-year-old still has more than two years left to run on his contract at Old Trafford, but there will surely be no way back if Ten Hag remains in the hot seat.
A swap deal involving Sancho and Malen has been touted as a means by which Dortmund may be able to thrash out a permanent switch, but such a proposal was reportedly given a 'short shrift' by insiders at the Bundesliga club.

Malen is in fine form, with 11 goals in 22 league appearances this season, and he has previously spoken about his dream of playing in the Premier League. The Dutchman spent time on the books at Arsenal but left without playing a single senior game.
It remains to be seen how United co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe tackles the Sancho fiasco when the transfer window opens this summer. The Red Devils face the prospect of accepting a hefty loss to move him on permanently, or paying from their own pocket to send him elsewhere on a temporary basis.

There is also the possibility of Ten Hag being given his marching orders by Sir Jim, as the former Ajax boss splutters to the end of a disappointing second season which has been blighted by injuries.
A change in management could open the door to Sancho returning, although fans would be eager to see an improvement on his underwhelming return of 12 goals in 82 appearances for the Red Devils.
