Liverpool target Ruben Amorim 'in talks' with Premier League rivals in surprise twist
Liverpool look 'unlikely' to appoint Ruben Amorim as Jurgen Klopp's successor as West Ham make their move.
West Ham United are reportedly in surprise talks to appoint Ruben Amorim as manager when David Moyes' contract expires this summer. The Sporting Lisbon boss has been strongly tipped to succeed Jurgen Klopp at Liverpool, but that outcome is now said to be unlikely.
Moyes' future at West Ham beyond the end of the season is uncertain amid a disastrous implosion at the start of 2024, suffering 12 Premier League defeats since the turn of the year.
West Ham finished 14th last term, but Moyes guided the club to their first European trophy since 1965 by winning the Europa Conference League, which earned Europa League qualification.
The Hammers look set to improve on their position this season, but just three league wins in 2024 have left them increasingly unlikely to retain their European status.
A 5-2 defeat at Crystal Palace on Sunday intensified frustrations among supporters, with a daunting clash against title chasers Liverpool to come on Saturday.
According to The Athletic, West Ham are preparing to make a change this summer by holding discussions with Amorim.
The 39-year-old is regarded as one of Europe's most exciting coaches and his arrival at the London Stadium would represent a significant coup.

Amorim has reportedly featured prominently in West Ham's thinking as they plan for Moyes' potential exit, and the opportunity is said to appeal to him.
West Ham are also claimed to have assessed former Wolves boss Julen Lopetegui as an option, but Amorim is the east London outfit's top choice.
The Lisbon-born tactician was among the favourites, if not considered the frontrunner, to replace Klopp when the German walks away from Liverpool after a historic nine-year reign this summer.
However, the report adds that while Amorim has been under consideration at Anfield, he appears unlikely to be the preferred candidate among Liverpool's new-look sporting hierarchy helmed by the returning Michael Edwards.

Amorim's exit from the frame will undoubtedly spark speculation about Klopp's successor, given that the pool of candidates continues to shorten.
