Liverpool have golden opportunity to replace Darwin Nunez with 'their own Erling Haaland'
COLUMN: Liverpool can sign a proven Premier League goalscorer this summer
Darwin Nunez has been afforded to slip under the radar with Jurgen Klopp's farewell taking centre stage. But if Liverpool had a deadly hitman like Dominic Solanke at the top of the pitch, they would still be in the ascendancy to secure the Premier League title.
The Reds must rue letting the forward join Bournemouth in 2019 for just £19 million. You can't imagine him blasting straight at Jordan Pickford when the Merseyside derby was on a knife-edge. Or failing to convert one of the 21 shots they had in the loss to Crystal Palace.
Solanke has 18 league goals this season, two behind Erling Haaland and Cole Palmer. He would have a lot more if Mo Salah and Luis Diaz were playing either side of him.Nunez has scored 11 goals from 106 shots this season.
A team at the top of the table can't afford to have a striker who needs 10 shots to score one goal. In comparison, Solanke has recorded around one goal for every five shots he takes. That is a similar record to Erling Haaland.

The stats are pretty damning, including Nunez's 27 big chances missed.
Liverpool spent an initial £64m on Nunez and he has four years left on his deal. They will struggle to recoup the majority of that back if they were to sell the Uruguayan this summer.
But keeping faith in the 24-year-old could cost them more silverware in the long term.
Havertz happy
IT was pleasing to see Kai Havertz celebrate goals against former club Chelsea.
Players should be encouraged to celebrate every time they hit the back of the net instead of muting their happiness out of 'respect'.
It only becomes disrespectful if they go full Emmanuel Adebayor and run the length of the pitch to taunt them.
