Everton boss Sean Dyche in awkward exchange with MOTD reporter after securing Prem status
Everton secured their Premier League safety with a 1-0 win over Brentford on Saturday
Everton's Sean Dyche had a tense exchange with a Match of the Day journalist following their crucial victory over Brentford, which secured their Premier League status.
The Merseyside outfit clinched a narrow 1-0 win courtesy of Idrissa Gueye's decisive strike in the 60th minute, which saw them avoid the drop to the Championship despite a season marred by two points deductions.
While lauding his squad for hitting the 36-point mark tally beyond the reach of Luton Town and Burnley, Dyche was not overly exuberant and seemed irked by a particular query during his post-match interview. As the BBC interview was wrapping up, the suggestion that Everton were effectively safe prior to their clash with Brentford prompted a sharp retort from Dyche.
"Of course, that old chestnut," he remarked. "'You were safe really' and all that, of course, You're all desperate for Luton to win and for us to lose. It ain't my first rodeo to be fair.

Despite the tension, the interaction ended on a lighter note, with the reporter playfully acknowledging, "Yeah you were," and Dyche replying, "Yeah alright."
Earlier, the Everton manager had pointed out his team's commendable performances, with victories against Liverpool, Nottingham Forest, and Burnley playing a significant role in their fight for survival.
"Incredibly pleased and incredibly proud of a group of players who have had knocks all season," Dyche expressed following the triumph over Brentford. "Some in our control some out of it obviously.
"To put in four out of five clean sheets, to put in four out five wins at this stage of the season with the mounting noise after the Chelsea games is incredible.
"I think the mentality of the players has been fantastic, We're stretched at the minute with injuries and you could see the clear-mindedness to get the job done. Super pleased and proud."
