Bruno Fernandes in 'long meeting' with Man Utd chiefs after claims he wants to quit club
Bruno Fernandes' future at Manchester United has been up in the air ahead of a possible summer transfer.
Bruno Fernandes has reportedly held a 'long meeting' with Manchester United chiefs to discuss his future after being linked with a move away from Old Trafford. The Portuguese captain was said to be ready to quit the club after a disappointing season, with the Red Devils sitting eighth in the Premier League table.
The New York Times claim that the expectation is for Fernandes to continue at United after a lengthy meeting was held between the skipper and new decision-makers INEOS, who were represented by Sir Dave Brailsford, Jason Wilcox and Matt Hargreaves.
The 29-year-old and his entourage sat down with the United leadership team at their Carrington training ground last week, where it was made clear to Fernandes that the team will continue to be built around him.
He was seeking clarification over ambitions under Sir Jim Ratcliffe and co, with the playmaker focused on United becoming competitive and competing for titles once again.

Fernandes has asked for evidence that United are moving in the right direction, likely to be in the form of additions to the playing squad over the summer, but a surprise sale has still not been ruled out.
If the Portugal international is not satisfied with the direction that the team is being taken in, or a momentous offer arrives, he could still leave Old Trafford. But the consensus is that Fernandes will continue to see out his contract, which expires in two years' time.
Last month, Fernandes raised eyebrows by admitting that he could leave United and will consider his future after the upcoming FA Cup final and Euro 2024 with Portugal.
"Obviously, it doesn't just depend on me, does it? A player always has to want to be here, but at the same time, you have to want him to stay. At the moment, I feel there's that on both sides," Fernandes told DAZN.
"I'm not thinking too much about the future, not least because, obviously, this season hasn't been at the level I'd hoped for, either individually or collectively, so far.
"So, if you want me to be very honest, if I have to think about not continuing in the Premier League, it won't be until after the Euros. Nothing will be able to take my focus away from the FA Cup final and the Euros, as there's nothing more important than that at the moment."
