Chelsea goalkeeper Djordje Petrovic has spoken out about rumours linking his side with a move for Benjamin Sesko. The RB Leipzig star has been heavily linked with a move to the Premier League this summer, with Arsenal also among his admirers.

Soon-to-be Blues boss Enzo Maresca is expected to shake up the Chelsea ranks over the coming months as he looks to stamp his authority on his new side. Signings are therefore expected at both ends of the pitch, with a centre-back and goalkeeper being prioritised.

The Stamford Bridge outfit are also in the market for a new striker, with Napoli’s Victor Osimhen and Brentford star Ivan Toney among their considerations.

Slovenia international Sesko has also been linked with a move to Chelsea, and pursuing the forward has been encouraged by Blues shot-stopper Petrovic.

Asked if he was aware of the rumours linking his side with Sesko, Petrovic told Nogomania: “I know and have been following him. He’s having a good half-season, he’s in great scoring form.

“I read that he’s scored in his last seven matches in a row. He seems to have gained strong momentum for the Euros. He’s a forward who has everything a modern player needs. He’s tall, strong, fast and intelligent.

“I’ve watched some of his matches. Of course, he can play in the Premier League. Absolutely! He has great potential and he’s been successfully proving it in recent months.”

Chelsea may need to act quickly if they are to secure the signature of the ex-RB Salzburg star though, as they are not the only club in the race to secure the signature of the talented 20-year-old.

According to the Daily Telegraph, Arsenal are leading the race to sign Sesko and Mikel Arteta’s side believe that they are in ‘pole position’ to acquire his services before the start of next season. After a stellar season, the striker’s release clause has risen from £43million to £55m, but the increase has not seen interest fizzle out.

Manchester United and Newcastle have also been linked with Sesko previously, and Chelswa will therefore need to get the wheels in motion to strike a deal with Leipzig if they are to mark the start of Maresca’s tenure at Stamford Bridge by landing the forward.
