Jadon Sancho has bid farewell to Borussia Dortmund ahead of his return to Manchester United this summer. The England winger faces an uncertain future having been banished by the Red Devils in September last year.

Sancho shone in a half-season spell at Dortmund, from whom he had been signed by United in a £70m deal in 2021. But he returned after being exiled from Erik ten Hag’s first-team squad after a disagreement with the Dutchman early in the 2023-24 season.

The 24-year-old helped Dortmund reach the Champions League final, although they were beaten 2-0 by Real Madrid in Saturday’s final at Wembley. Sancho has now paid tribute to the Bundesliga side and their staff as he prepares to go back to Old Trafford.

“What a crazy 6 months @bvb09,” the winger wrote on X.

“Finally a special thank you to the BVB fans. Your support is amazing and I’m forever thankful for you all!”

Sancho scored twice and provided three assists in 14 Bundesliga appearances after rejoining Dortmund in January. The club finished fifth in the German top-flight.

The former Manchester City prospect will now return to United, where he could continue to remain exiled from the senior squad. Ten Hag’s own future is up in the air after disappointing Premier League and Champions League campaigns.

United chiefs, including INEOS CEO Sir Jim Ratcliffe and co-chairman Joel Glazer, have been conducting a season review over the past week. According to Sky Sports, Ten Hag will learn about a decision on his future in the coming days.
