As England prepare to take on Denmark in their second Euro 2024 game later today (June 20), fans of the Three Lions might want to check their wardrobes for retro footy gear - because it could be worth a small fortune.

Research conducted by UK Debt Expert found replicas of England's Admiral home shirt worn in the 1970 World Cup in Mexico are worth up to a staggering £525.

Analysis of eBay sales - which doesn't include signed items - found the most valuable international shirt is that of the Netherlands - their 1988 home shirt worn en route to becoming European champions. The top's average retail price at auction is a cool £899.99.

The second most pricey is Italy’s 1992 Lotto kit, which recently sold for over £500 and has an average sale price of £575, despite the Azzurri failing to qualify for the tournament that year in Sweden.

It's worth Scotland fans having root around too - for the Tartan Army's 1970 Umbro home shirt is worth a cool £310 - again despite a failure to qualify.

Speaking about the value of retro football shirts and how to make the most from your shirts, Maxine McCreadie, personal finance expert at UK Debt Expert, said: "As Europe becomes a buzz for another summer of football mania, there’s no better time to turn your vintage shirts into cash and score big on the nostalgia wave of games and tournaments from yesteryear.

"As fans across the continent relive classic moments and celebrate their favourite teams, T-shirts not only hold sentimental value, but provide an opportunity to make some extra cash. Some fans may even mark history while wearing history, as both Scotland and England vie to win the tournament for the first time.

"To turn your wardrobe into a financial goal, make sure you check similar items recently sold online for an idea of how much you could be sitting on, and mention explicitly any unique aspects of the shirt, such as player signatures, special edition details, or specific historical significance."

Maxine continued: "Whether you’re looking to try and make a little extra money or simply intrigued by the potential value of your old football shirts, it could be worth checking their value online."

Elsewhere in the top 10 most valuable shirts are Romania's 1994 Adidas home offering (£399.99), and Spain's 1966 home shirt and Ukraine's 2012 home shirt (both also £399.99).

Denmark's 1994 Hummel strip fetches and average of £350, meanwhile, with Portugal's 1999 Adidas top and Croatia's 1996 shirt completing the list at £299.99 and £279.99 respectively.

UK Debt Expert also advises: "If you’re fortunate enough to own football memorabilia, whether it’s football shirts, cards or a scarf, it could be worth getting it valued.

"Check similar items recently sold online for an idea of how much you could be sitting on, and make sure to mention any unique aspects of the shirt, such as player signatures, special edition details, or specific historical significance.

"If available, include any proof of authenticity, and ensure that you include clear, detailed images that help to showcase the great condition of your shirt."
