Manchester United kickstarted their 2024/25 campaign in the right way with a 1-0 victory over Fulham last week, and they will be hoping to make it two wins from two on Saturday.

Erik ten Hag’s side travel to the Amex Stadium to take on Brighton & Hove Albion FC, who will be full of confidence following their emphatic 3-0 victory over Everton. The Red Devils have struggled against the Seagulls in previous years, and they know they will need to be at their very best if they are to get a result away from home.

Express Sport takes a look at how United are expected to line up, with Ten Hag facing several team selection headaches…

Man Utd predicted XI vs Brighton (4-3-3)

Goalkeeper: Onana

After a strong showing against Fulham, Onana retains his spot between the sticks for United. It would be a shock to see the Cameroon international ousted for a Premier League match this season.

Defence: Mazraoui, Maguire, Martinez, Dalot

After such an impressive league debut, Mazraoui is likely to remain at right-back for United and force Dalot to settle for a makeshift stint at left-back whilst Tyrell Malacia and Luke Shaw are sidelined through injury.

Matthijs de Ligt may be forced to wait before starting a Premier League fixture for United, with Maguire performing well of late and Martinez a stalwart for the Red Devils when fit.

Mason Mount

Midfield: Mainoo, Casemiro, Fernandes

With more forwards now available and fully fit, Mason Mount looks the likeliest contender to drop to the bench and pave the way for Fernandes to return to midfield. The Portugal international was tasked with playing as a makeshift No. 9 against Fulham but has thrived more as the creator rather than a focal point in attack – as shown by his several missed chances at Old Trafford.

Joshua Zirkzee

Forwards: Rashford, Zirkzee, Garnacho

After a mixed bag of a performance by Amad Diallo, Ten Hag may turn to Garnacho back on the right wing in the hope of injecting some pace into his frontline. The Argentina international made an instant impact off of the bench against Fulham, despite missing a sitter.

New signing Zirkzee enjoyed his substitute appearance too, marking his debut with a goal to showcase why he is ready to lead the line for United whilst Rasmus Hojlund is ruled out through injury.
