Liverpool's Trent Alexander-Arnold has expressed his feelings on social media following the Reds' 2-0 triumph over Brentford, with goals from Luis Diaz and Mohamed Salah securing a win for Arne Slot in his first competitive match at Anfield.

Despite the victory, Alexander-Arnold seemed less than pleased about being substituted off before the match concluded. Slot replaced him with 18 minutes to go and was seen conversing with the defender afterwards, who still appeared discontent even after the game ended.

Addressing the media post-match, Slot waved off any notion of tension with the Liverpool vice-captain, whose contract is up next summer, justifying his decision to substitute Alexander-Arnold.

"I understand. Every player wants to play 90 minutes but I don't think the players who were on the bench from the start were really happy with the choice I made," he commented.

"Trent came back from national team where at the beginning of the tournament (Euro 2024) he played quite a lot and then he didn't. He had a few weeks off and then came back.

"It's only his third game and we have to take care of him as well because we need him for the whole season and not only the first two games."

"What a good thing for me is that I have a very good backup with Conor (Bradley) as well. We are taking care of Trent, but he played a good game."

Alexander-Arnold has taken to Instagram to express his gratitude towards the Reds' faithful following their in over Brentford. The right-back shared snapshots of his post-match celebrations and corner-taking duties, with a heartfelt caption: "First win at home. Fans were incredible as always."

Additionally, Alexander-Arnold updated his Instagram story with a cheerful image of himself arriving at Anfield, heading towards the changing rooms.

Despite also being substituted during Liverpool's season opener against Ipswich for Bradley in the 77th minute, the defender's spirits remain high. Liverpool are set to face Manchester United away in their next fixture, which will be the last match before the September international break.
