Manchester United have reportedly reached an agreement with Paris Saint-Germain over the £50million fee for midfielder Manuel Ugarte. The Red Devils now have one more hurdle to overcome as they close in on a deal for the Uruguay international.

Ugarte is Erik ten Hag's top target for the No 6 role at Old Trafford, where the Dutchman has lacked options throughout his two years in charge. Casemiro is the only recognised senior defensive midfielder in Ten Hag's squad and his form has come under scrutiny in the last 12 months.

United have been busy in the transfer window this summer and a deal for Ugarte would elevate their spending close to the £200m milestone. There seems to be confidence that a full agreement can be in place ahead of Friday's transfer deadline.

According to Sky Sports, United have now formally agreed a basic £50m fee for Ugarte but must still come to a deal over the structure of their payments to PSG. The Red Devils are unlikely to pay the money as one lump sum, despite raising funds through several departures.

Ugarte only joined PSG from Sporting Lisbon last summer and made 25 appearances in the French top-flight. He turned down Premier League interest to make the move 12 months ago but now seems set for a switch to England.

Should the transfer go ahead, the 23-year-old would become the fifth arrival at Old Trafford of a busy summer. Defender Leny Yoro and attacker Joshua Zirkzee were signed early in the window, before a double deal with Bayern Munich was sorted for defensive duo Matthijs de Ligt and Noussair Mazraoui.

United's business has partly been funded by a series of outgoings as part of an overhaul of Ten Hag's squad. Around £50m has been raised through the sales of Mason Greenwood, Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Willy Kambwala, and Facundo Pellistri.

Scott McTominay also seems to be headed for a surprise exit, despite scoring 10 goals in 43 appearances. A £25m fee has been agreed with Napoli for the departure of the 27-year-old Scotland international. Ten Hag insisted McTominay was an "important" player for his side three weeks ago.

United have had a tricky start to the new Premier League season. They relied on a dramatic late winner by Zirkzee to win their opening game against Fulham. Ten Hag then suffered his first defeat of the campaign on Saturday, with the Red Devils losing 2-1 against Brighton.
