York crushed by Kevin Davies late show
FOR a little over 83 minutes Bolton played like the Australian middle-order, promising much but delivering precious little, only for clinical Kevin Davies to step up and ruin York City’s FA Cup dream.
The Minstermen had more than held their own against the Premier League high-fliers before Davies’ strike, with Neil Barratt spurning two second-half chances to send the non-League side’s fans into raptures.
A minute from time Johan Elmander made it 2-0 as York tired, but on opportunities created this tie should have gone back to Bootham Crescent.
Visiting skipper Chris Smith said: “There was only seven minutes left when the first goal went in so we are absolutely gutted. It was a cruel blow after we had played so well. To keep them to 0-0 for 83 minutes says everything about our performance and we are all devastated.”
