Light Blues takeover remains on track

RANGERS suitor Craig Whyte is confident he can secure the club in a £33million buy-out within the next month.

Despite recent stories suggesting the multi-millionaire was set to walk away from the proposed takeover, sources last night insisted the deal was very much on track for a speedy agreement.

Due diligence has now been completed and the final stumbling block surrounding an issue with Revenue and Customs is in the process of being resolved.

Insiders are convinced Whyte, who had expected to take control before the end of the winter transfer window, will become Rangers’ next owner either by the end of this month or early in March.

“The money is in place and there should be no further delays other than the usual financial safeguards and contracts being signed,” said a source.

“Whyte is only waiting for structures to be firmed up that will ensure he is not landed with a debt fall-out from the ongoing case between Rangers and HMRC which is due to be heard in April or May.

“He believes that will be done within the next four weeks and the whole takeover will be tied up.”

Last night neither Whyte nor Rangers owner Sir David Murray would comment on the development, citing Stock Exchange rules.
