Taking the Mike
IT IS entirely laudable that Michael Owen should take up the case of the common fan by tweeting that the £225 cost of Champions League final tickets was a “joke”.
But his protest has provoked little more than contempt from the man who helped contribute to nearly £20million paid to the player at Newcastle over four years at a cost of £660,000 a goal. Former chairman Freddy Shepherd said: “It is an incredible comment. I am almost lost for words. Where does Michael Owen think he gets the money to pay his wages?
“Nevertheless, when I was chairman at Newcastle I made absolutely certain that season-ticket prices were kept as low as possible so the ordinary man in the street could continue to watch his team.”
