Madjid Bougherra may be Turkey-bound
FORMER Rangers star Shota Arveladze has been urged to sign Madjid Bougherra for Turkish club Kayserispor.
The ex-Ibrox striker already has Bougherra’s Algerian team-mate Karim Ziani on his books on loan from Wolfsburg and is poised to complete a permanent deal for the midfield man, who is keen to have his close pal with him in time for next season.
Ziani said: “I told Arveladze to sign Madjid because Kayserispor are ambitious and want to strengthen the squad.
“If we want the best, he should get Bougherra – I didn’t hesitate for a second to recommend him. Shota used to play in Glasgow, of course, and knows about Madjid who is Rangers’ best player by far and I would love to play alongside him because he is a friend and someone I regard as a brother.”
If the Turks do come calling on Ibrox it will test new owner Craig Whyte’s resolve to keep the club’s best players for new manager Ally McCoist.
Bougherra has already indicated a willingness to try his luck elsewhere – the Premiership is his preferred destination – although he has also admitted he would be content to serve out the last year of his career at Ibrox.
