Gary Cahill finding a taste for the high life
GARY CAHILL believes his upstairs downstairs football life can eventually reap the biggest rewards.
Cahill continued his international central defensive partnership with John Terry helping England seal their Euro 2012 qualification on Friday.
It’s a stark contrast to life with Bolton – anchored to the foot of the Premier League and leaking goals.
He finds himself still at the Reebok Stadium despite summer interest from Terry’s Chelsea, Arsenal and Spurs. The January transfer window is expected to spark fresh bids for his services.
But in Montenegro his only thoughts were on summer’s Euro finals in the Ukraine and Poland. He said: “It would mean everything to play, to be involved and, hopefully, I can prove from what I’ve done in my short England career that I’m ready to go.”
“You are learning every time you get a chance to play, coming away, different climates, different environments. It is a learning curve and will stand me and other young players in good stead for the future.”
At Bolton we’ve had a tough run of games
“At Bolton we’ve had a tough run of games. It does grind on me. It disappoints me because I’m a defender and I hate conceding goals.
“Those harder games are over now and we can look forward to getting the season started again.”
