Burnley 3 Blackpool 1: Austin flunks treble chance
CHARLIE AUSTIN produced the miss of the season but Burnley still managed to blast away derby rivals Blackpool.
The striker had already netted when Jay Rodriguez presented him with an open goal at the death.
But Austin held his head in shame after side-footing wide.
Austin had flung himself at winger Junior Stanislas’s whipped cross to score in the 20th-minute.
Eddie Howe’s men doubled their lead from a Ross Wallace free-kick. Austin then fed Marvin Bartley to side-foot a third Burnley goal after the break before Jonjo Shelvey’s consolation for the visitors.
Burnley manager Howe said: “It was just what we needed. We are moving in the right direction but we need to get more ruthless in defence.”
