Brian McDermott overtakes Roberto Di Matteo in race for Leeds United job
BRIAN McDERMOTT is set to be appointed as the new Leeds United boss.
Chelsea legend Roberto Di Matteo was the red-hot favourite to succeed Neil Warnock at Elland Road but now bookmakers have stopped taking bets on who will be named the new manager.
It is understood that McDermott has been locked in talks with Leeds' top brass and that he could take charge before the end of the season.
Leeds have lost three games in a row and are now just five points above the relegation places in the Championship.
McDermott was axed by Premier League Reading last month despite guiding them into the top flight of English football.
Neil Redfearn took over from Warnock after he stepped down but Leeds now haven't won for seven games.
