Arsenal open talks for Barcelona keeper Victor Valdes
BARCELONA goalkeeper could be set for a summer move to the Premier League, after Arsenal opened talks with the player's agent.
Valdes has been at Barca for his entire senior career, but with his contract due to expire next summer has publicised his intention to play abroad.
The 31-year-old shot-stopper has revealed his admiration for English football, and has been linked with Arsenal after their goalkeeping issues this season.
Reports in Spain suggest that the Gunners have already made contact with Valdes' agent Gines Carvaja over the possibility of a €5m (£4.25m) transfer this summer.
Barcelona are thought to want a significantly improved figure, closer to £10m, but Arsenal are confident of securing Valdes on the cheap given his contractual situation.
Arsene Wenger has identified Valdes to be his number one goalkeeper, with Wojciech Szczesny and Lukasz Fabianksi potential reserves.
Valdes has made 39 appearances for Barca so far this season, playing a key role in their domestic and European campaign.
