PSG try to hijack Chelsea's move for Napoli hit man Edinson Cavani
PARIS SAINT-GERMAIN have emerged as the frontrunners for Edinson Cavani's signature with the Ligue 1 moneybags reportedly willing to pay the full amount of his release clause.
Cavani's release clause currently stands at £53m, and it seemed that Chelsea were in pole position to sign him after agreeing personal terms insofar as offering the Uruguayan a staggering £7.2m a season.
More significantly, the 26-year-old appeared to be leaning more towards Chelsea after secretly telling friends he has his heart set on moving to Stamford Bridge.
But now it seems PSG are ready to pull the rug from underneath the carpet for Chelsea.
"I’d love to work with Cavani. He is a player I like very much," PSG incumbent Laurent Blanc told reporters at a press conference.
"I would be happy if one day he was to become part of our squad, but I know that I’m not the only Coach to be saying that today."
Real Madrid have also been credited with an interest, though they aren't thought to have lodged a formal bid yet.
Cavani was sensational for Napli, who finished runners-up to Juventus in Serie A last season, as he plundered 36 goals in all competitions.
