Newcastle left frustrated after Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang signs for Borussia Dortmund
NEWCASTLE UNITED have been left disappointed after Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang wrapped up his move to Borussia Dortmund for an undisclosed fee.
The 24-year-old Gabon international, signed a contract with the Champions League finalists, which will see him stay at the Westfalenstadion until 2018.
He had been strongly linked with the Magpies, who had been pondering over moves as well for Andre-Pierre Gignac and Darren Bent.
But the Magpies have lost the race with Dortmund moving quickly to securing his services.
"We are very pleased that in Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang we were able to sign a player we really wanted," the Dortmund sporting director Michael Zorc told reporters.
"He is offensively very versatile, has a lot of pace in his game, is a threat in front of goal and will provide us with more options."
Aubameyang took to the social networking site Twitter to confirm the news and tweeted: "And now let's go to @ BVB a dream for me, continuing its course Thank you Lord."
He was in free-scoring mode last season for St Etienne as he fired home 19 goals in Ligue 1.
