Sunderland boss Paolo Di Canio closes in on Italy star Emanuele Giaccherini
PAOLO DI CANIO is set to add Italy and Juventus midfielder Emanuele Giaccherini to his squad at Sunderland.
Giaccherini is expected to clinch a £10million move to Sunderland, following Paolo Di Canio's capture of American forward Jozy Altidore.
Reports in Italy claim that the 28-year-old is set to leave Juventus, having impressed for his national side this summer at the Confederations Cup.
Sunderland's initial £7m offer was turned down, but when the bid was raised above £8.5m the negotiations began in earnest.
And Juventus are thought to be willing to let Giaccherini go for a fee in the region of £10m.
It has also been reported that the North-East outfit have had an offer for Inter Milan youth product Daniel Bessa rejected.
The 20-year-old Italian-Brazilian is an attacking midfielder who spent the last six months on loan at Vicenza.
