Manchester United handed boost as Roma fail to meet PSV's valuation of Kevin Strootman
MANCHESTER UNITED appear to still be in the running for PSV midfielder Kevin Strootman.
The 23-year-old, who has been a long-standing Manchester United target, had also piqued the interest of Roma, who were planning a bid of their own.
United have been in the market for a midfielder as they seek a long-term replacement for Paul Scholes who retired at the end of last season.
With United set to miss on Thiago Alcantara, who appears ready to reunite with Pep Guardiola at Bayern Munich, David Moyes may welcome the good news about Strootman.
Reports in Italy have surfaced suggesting that Roma have been told by PSV that only a sensational offer could prise him away.
"Roma have contacted us to tell us that they are interested in Kevin Strootman," technical director Marcel Brands told Fox Sports.
"We have told Roma that Strootman is not for sale, and only an important offer could convince us otherwise.
“In our opinion, Roma is the only club to be interested in Strootman, but they have made no offer.”
Strootman scored six goals in the Eredivisie last season.
