I was ruthless! Sir Alex Ferguson sheds light on his Manchester United reign
SIR ALEX FERGUSON has revealed that his ruthless streak made him the successful manager he was at Manchester United.
Ferguson's 26-year stint was laden with trophies as he turned United into the predominant force of England.
The Scot had some high profile bust-ups along the way, but he has revealed how his ruthless streak and win-at-all-costs mentality were critical in helping him achieve the success he did.
"I was paid to keep winning, that was my job, so I was ruthless. I’m not going to deny that," Ferguson told delegates at EY World Entrepreneur of the Year awards yesterday.
"You have to have a strong personality when you’re leading people. And I’ve got a pretty strong personality.

Even when things went against him, Ferguson admitted self-assurance was a crucial leadership trait.
"I never doubted myself,” he added.
“Even in the dark days when I first joined Manchester United, I knew that what I was doing was completely right.”
